Welcome to Freediving South Africa!

We are based in Sodwanabay in northwestern corner of KwaZulu-Natal. Sodwana national park is blessed with some of the most incredible diving and ocean life in the world.  We launch every day and often encounter sharks, turtles, dolphins, whales and many other marine creatures during our freedive courses and adventures.

Our centre offers the perfect environment for learning to freedive, with a 3m pool, freedive gear, and accommodation for those who are traveling from afar.

Skills are practiced in the pool and courses are completed in the open ocean (weather permitting).

Our staff are ocean conservation-minded individuals who have undergone the highest level of training to facilitate safe and responsible freedive courses and adventures. We are committed to providing all of our students and guests with an unforgettable learning and adventure experience, in one of the best locations in the world!

The reef system we explore stretches for kilometres, and is the most southern coral-reef system along the African coastline. Our most popular reefs are only a few minutes drive by boat and average between 5-20m depth, there are some areas where the coral reaches the surface and some sites in excess of 30m!

Kent Taylor

Owner of Freediving South Africa & your Freediving instructor

My mission is to pass on my knowledge and guide YOU to the natural way of experiencing life below the ocean surface. I have spent my whole life living and working in the ocean around the world enjoying activities from fishing, spearfishing, surfing, diving and anything in-between. However, freediving has always been a special part of my life and teaching the sport has become even more fulfilling for me. I have been taking people diving for a couple of years, and I now instruct the Pure Apnea theory/course material. Freediving South Africa welcomes you to join us on an unforgettable experience underwater on one breath!
